Getting started

What is WishVendor?+

WishVendor is a wishlist platform for creators and public personalities. You list the things you'd love, share your link, and fans send you the cost of those items as cash — straight to your bank. You decide what to actually do with the money.

You can also run a Shop for physical items (clothes, merch, one-of-ones) and turn on Surprise gifts so fans can send you something you didn't ask for.

How is this different from Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App?+

Those apps move money between people who already know each other. WishVendor gives you a public page with a catalogue of gifts attached to prices. Fans don't need your phone number, bank details, or real name — they just open your link and pick. It's built for one-to-many, not one-to-one.

Do I need an account to send a gift?+

No. Gifters only need an email for the receipt and a card for Stripe. Creating an account as a gifter is optional — it lets you track the gifts you've sent and keep thank-you notes in one place.

Is it free to sign up?+

Yes. Creating an account, building a wishlist, and sharing your link are all free. WishVendor only takes a fee when a gift is actually sent — and that fee is added on top of the listed price, paid by the gifter, not deducted from you.

For creators — money

How much does WishVendor take?+

A flat 10% on every gift and shop purchase, plus a small FX margin on cross-currency payments to cover payment-processor spread.

The fee is paid by the gifter on top of your listed price. If you list something at $20, the gifter sees $22 at checkout and you receive the full $20 in your balance. Nothing is deducted from what you list.

How do I get paid?+

Connect a Stripe account from Account Settings → Payment Dashboard. Stripe handles identity verification (KYC), tax forms, and bank details directly — we never see any of that. Once connected, a “Cash out” button appears on your balance.

When you click it, we queue the payout and send your money via Stripe Connect. It lands in your bank account in 2–5 business days.

How long before I can withdraw a gift?+

Whenever Stripe settles the charge — typically around 2 business days after the gift is captured. We don't add our own hold on top. You can hit “Cash out” any time; if the gift hasn't settled yet, your payout is queued and sent automatically the moment the funds clear.

Is there a minimum payout?+

$10 (or the equivalent in your balance's currency). Below that the button is disabled until more gifts accumulate.

What happens if someone files a chargeback on a gift?+

The disputed amount is reversed from your balance, and if the dispute is lost Stripe deducts it from our platform balance. Under our Terms, we reserve the right to debit your balance for the cost of lost disputes — so if a chargeback hits after you've already cashed out, your balance can go temporarily negative until it's covered by future gifts.

What currencies can I receive in?+

Currency of each listing is set by you (USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD, JPY, CHF all supported). Gifts are charged in the listing currency; viewers see an auto-converted display price based on their location. Your balance is tracked per-currency — you cash out each one separately.

Do I have to pay tax on gifts?+

Probably, depending on your country and volume. We're not your accountant, but as a general rule payments received through platforms like this are treated as self-employment income in the UK and most other jurisdictions. Keep your own records and check with HMRC or a tax professional. Stripe will generate relevant summaries inside your Stripe dashboard.

For creators — your account

How do I add items to my wishlist?+

From your wishlist management page (linked from the dashboard), hit Add wish. Upload a photo, give it a title, set a price. For things you want to sell rather than receive as a gift, use Sell an item — that creates a Shop listing with buyer protection and a shipping address.

Can I change my @handle later?+

Yes, under Account Settings → Handle. Note this changes your public URL, so any old links to /@oldname will stop working.

Can I hide items without deleting them?+

Yes. For shop items, use the Hide button on each card in your dashboard — it stays in the database and preserves past orders, but disappears from your public page.

What can I list?+

Most things you'd find in a normal shop or gift registry are fine. What's not allowed:

  • Nudity, pornography, or sexually explicit content
  • Goods and services that are illegal where you are
  • Weapons, drugs, stolen or counterfeit items
  • Anything Stripe prohibits under their terms
  • Items offered in exchange for services, access, or relationships (gifts must be donative — Shop is the legal channel for physical-item sales)

Full list in the Terms of Use.

Can I turn off Surprise gifts?+

Yes, any time, under Account Settings → Surprise Gifts toggle. When off, the “Send surprise gift” card disappears from your wishlist page for everyone.

How do I delete my account?+

Account Settings → Delete Account. This wipes your personally identifying fields (email, name, profile image) immediately. Financial records (orders, ledger, payouts) are retained for 6 years to comply with HMRC record-keeping rules, but they're no longer linked to a live identity.

For gifters

Is it safe to pay here?+

Payments are processed by Stripe, the same processor used by Shopify, Lyft, and millions of other businesses. Your card details never touch our servers — they go directly from your browser to Stripe. We only see a payment confirmation.

Can I stay anonymous?+

You can leave the “From” name blank and tick “Don't publish my name/message” at checkout — the creator then sees “Anonymous” instead of a name, and your message won't be shown publicly. Your email is always private (the creator needs it only to send you a thank-you note and receipt).

Will the creator see my email?+

Yes — so they can write back if they want. If you don't want a personalised reply, use a secondary or forwarding address.

What do I actually receive?+

For gifts: the amount is sent directly to the creator — you're sponsoring what's on their wishlist, not buying a product from them. You get an email receipt and, if they reply, a personal thank-you note.

For Shop purchases: you get the physical item shipped to the address you provide at checkout, with tracking once the seller dispatches. Buyer protection holds the funds until you confirm receipt.

Can I get a refund?+

Gifts are final and non-refundable — you confirm this at checkout. We can only issue a refund in exceptional circumstances (e.g. duplicate charges caused by a technical error).

Shop purchasesare refundable if the seller fails to ship, the tracking is invalid, or the item arrives materially different from the listing. Open a dispute from your order page and we'll review.

The creator hasn't sent me a thank-you. Can I force one?+

No — thank-yous are voluntary and personal. Don't expect one as a condition of gifting.

Surprise gifts

What is a surprise gift?+

Instead of picking something off the creator's wishlist, you surprise them with something they didn't ask for. You upload a photo, give it a name (“Bouquet of peonies”, “Pumpkin spice latte”, “Vintage journal”), choose the price, pay, and the creator sees your chosen item alongside the cash amount.

Does the creator actually receive the physical thing?+

No — they receive the cash. The photo and title are a thoughtful gesture, not a fulfilment. They can then decide to buy the thing themselves, use the money for something else, or just enjoy the idea.

Shop — physical items

How is the Shop different from the wishlist?+

Wishlist items are gifts — cash sent to the creator, no goods exchanged. Shop items are sales — the creator ships a physical product to the buyer, with buyer protection and a dispute process.

When does the seller get paid for a shop order?+

Funds release to the seller when the earlier of these happens:

  • the buyer confirms receipt from their order page, or
  • 14 days have passed since the seller marked the order shipped with a valid tracking number, and the buyer hasn't opened a dispute.
What if my shop order never arrives?+

Open a dispute from your order page before the 14-day auto- release. We'll contact the seller, review evidence (tracking, photos, communications) and either refund you or release the funds, at our discretion.

Who pays shipping?+

The buyer — the seller sets a shipping price when they list the item, and it's added to the price at checkout.

Privacy and security

Where is my data stored?+

On our infrastructure (Vercel + managed database), with access restricted to a small number of authorised people. Payment data never touches our servers — Stripe handles it. Full detail in the Privacy Policy.

Is my card stored?+

Not by us. Card numbers and CVVs go directly from your browser to Stripe via their secure checkout; we only ever see a token.

Can I request a copy of my data?+

Yes — UK GDPR gives you a right of access. Email privacy@wishvendor.com and we'll respond within one month.

I didn't get my verification email+

Check spam, then request a new one from the sign-up flow. If still nothing, email support@wishvendor.com.
